From isolation to connection. From detachment to immersion. In our refusal to temporary, we discover the world that excites peoples in the course of milleniums, unites them under it’s dome through out entire historical path. There are no unsacred places. There are only sacred and desecrated places. The temple is dissappearing in the environment. It uncovers its vaults to the sky, leaving the columns in a consatnt reflection to infinity and a space in it’s march towards the plain.
The competition project for the Church of the Order of Poor Clares in Rwanda represents a reinterpretation of a traditional Catholic church, where architectural elements such as the nave, narthex, choir, and altar are turned inside out, creating an open space without walls. This bold approach reflects the idea of spiritual openness and the merging of the sacred space with the surrounding nature, symbolizing the integration of faith and the environment. Instead of conventional enclosed structures, the project offers a "dispersed" layout, where the main functional areas are spread across the territory, creating a smooth transition between the interior and exterior spaces. A distinctive row of trees forms a living colonnade and becomes a symbol of connection to the land, reminding the community of its natural and spiritual roots.
The project seeks not only to rethink the canonical elements of a Catholic church but to propose a new concept of spiritual space, where nature and architecture merge into a single harmonious composition. This interpretation of the church inspires a search for new forms of prayer and contemplation, offering opportunities for deeper interaction with the environment and strengthening the sense of community among worshippers.
